Learn To Surf With Suds Surf School
We teach surfing in a friendly and relaxed environment. Surf instruction is available to anyone with absolute beginners to intermediate levels all catered for.
There are a variety of surf courses to choose from starting at a leisurely taster session up to a weeks intensive surf instruction. These are flexible to allow for weather conditions and your requirements. It does take a few surf lessons to get the feel for surfing & to master standing up but this is within reach of practically everyone. The surf instructor will be in the water with the group so they can offer you advice and coaching. Tiree has an abundance of pristine white sand beaches with many having excellent surfing waves, probably the highest concentration of quality surf beaches in Scotland. Best equipment available with 'soft' boards from Bullet & Surftech and also NSP mini-mals. Warm 5mm winter wetsuits, boots, gloves & hoods are provided by O’Neill, Snugg, Xcel and Alder (you will not be cold in these!)
We also have trade accounts with the above manufacturers where you can get a custom fit or an off the shelf wetsuit, surfboard etc if you get the surfing bug and want to buy equipment.
Hire of surfboards, hire of stand up paddlesurf SUP boards, bodyboards, skimboards, snorkelling gear & wetsuits.
Surfboard repair service. Surf Life Saving Association & British Surfing Association qualified. Snorkel and mask hire - Tiree is ideal for this with its clear water and amazing coastline. Multi-Activity weeks & Corporate Activity weeks including stand up paddle surfing, snorkelling, kayaking & kitesurfing.

Where to find us
We are based at Balevullin beach on the northwest of Tiree. The surf school is mobile so you can take advantage of the many surf beaches the island has. Please note there is a poor phone signal at Balevullin (peace & quiet!) so you have more chance of contacting me in the morning or in the evening or via text message. Please note the only mobile networks currently available on Tiree are Vodafone and O2.
The school is open daily in the school holidays and by arrangement out with these dates. Contact me on 077930 63849 on the day or preferably before to arrange lessons. I leave a voicemail answer message on my mobile phone with details of where and when I’ll be teaching that day. You can also check my whereabouts on the various touch screen information points located around the island.
Tiree is easily accessed daily by a short plane ride from Glasgow with Flybe or by a regular Caledonian MacBrayne ferry departing from Oban. You can take bikes & cars by ferry or rent them on the island. The Millhouse Hostel (01879 220435) rent bikes and is a 10-minute cycle from the surf school. MacLennan Motors (01879 220555) are located beside the ferry pier and hire cars & bikes. Walking on Tiree is a popular option and hitchhiking is generally ok.
